Healthy Halloween Treats for Preschoolers

Healthy Halloween Treats for Preschoolers at Kids 'R' Kids Legacy West, preschool, daycare, childcare, learning academy

As a parent, you can embrace the festive spirit of Halloween and still avoid all the candy the holiday seems to entail! When running errands with your preschooler, practice saying no to some of the candy offerings that you encounter. And when at home, choose flavorful, healthy Halloween-inspired treats over sugary sweets!

Traditional treats for Halloween

Even though candy seems ubiquitous with the holiday, traditional treats for Halloween often focused on fruits and vegetables common during harvest season. For example, annual apple harvests occur at the same time of year, and many long-standing Halloween traditions and treats involve apples, from bobbing for apples to eating candied or caramel ones.

Healthy treats for preschoolers

Whether you plan to throw a Halloween party for a group of preschoolers, or you want to whip up a nutritious snack for your own little one, you can prepare easy, healthy Halloween treats with minimum fuss.

Ghoulish Snackers

Enlist your preschooler to help you turn a standard vegetable snack platter into a Halloween ghoul–such as a skeleton, a ghost, or a Frankenstein monster. Use black olives or cucumber slices to stand in as eyes and a nose, and include a bowl of tasty dressing on the side for dipping. Admire your handiwork together before enjoying the first tasty bite!

Spooky Creatures

Let your creativity loose by creating spooky Halloween creatures, such as spiders and snakes, from a bowl of black olives or black grapes. If helpful, secure pieces together with small toothpicks, but make sure that little snackers know to remove them later! You can also use small crackers, pretzel sticks, and cream cheese or peanut butter to make creepy crawlies and friendly fall animals, such as owls and cats. Experiment with your designs, and let the process be part of the fun!
