Parent-teacher teams are the strongest teams to tackle the education of children. Getting to know your preschooler’s teacher and learning to appreciate one another and work together is one of the best things that you can do for your child’s education.
When your child is young and preschool aged, there won’t be much, if any, homework to tackle in the evenings, but there are still ways to stay involved with what the teacher is teaching, and reinforcing it at home. Ask the teacher and your child what they learned about each day, and try to go over it at home for more reinforcement. Are they learning their ABCs? Sing them together! Are they learning their numbers? Count fingers, toes, blocks, and anything in sight!
Understand your child’s learning style and discuss this with your teacher. There are different learning styles, and different kids learn better through different means. The sooner you learn your child’s unique learning style, the sooner you can cater to their intellectual needs. Are they a kinesthetic, visual, verbal, or auditory learner? Be willing to invest whatever it takes in your child, and be encouraging to them as they work hard to learn more every day. Ask them about their day after school and listen for any hints they give you about where they might be struggling.
Last, be sure to appreciate your child’s teacher and all they do for your child. They have a classroom full of children, and sometimes it can be difficult to spend quality one-on-one time with every child, so make you that you let them know that you are thankful for the time and effort that they put into educating and caring for your child. Appreciation, respect, and communication are vital for any relationship, so develop these things with your child’s teacher so that you can team up and give your child the best education.
