10 Reasons to Introduce Your Preschooler to Public Libraries

10 Reasons to Introduce Your Preschooler to Public Libraries at Kids 'R' Kids of Riverstone, daycare, childcare, children

In the United States, Library Month is celebrated in November. Below are 10 reasons why libraries should be celebrated not just this month, but every month! Take the time to teach your preschooler about libraries now, as a long-term investment in their relationship with libraries, books, and your community in general.

Libraries Provide Free Access to Information and Knowledge

No matter where you live in the United States, you can almost always find a library nearby that can provide you with information and knowledge. Libraries offer a variety of resources, including books, magazines, newspapers, articles, and even e-books. You can also find reference materials, such as dictionaries, encyclopedias, and other resourceful books. If there’s anything you can’t find on Google, chances are high that you can find it in a library.

Libraries Provide Free Access to Computers

If you don’t have a computer or internet at home, you can go to the library to get access. Most libraries offer free computer and internet access, and some even offer computer classes to help you get started.

Libraries Are a Great Place to Study

Libraries are usually very quiet and provide a great environment for studying. You can also find study materials, desks, and other useful amenities. This is a great environment to help with teaching your preschooler how to have fun while still being quiet.

Libraries Offer a Variety of Events and Programs

This includes things like story time for kids, book clubs, movie screenings, and author talks. These events and programs are usually free or low-cost.

Libraries Provide a Sense of Community

Libraries are often seen as the heart of the community. They are places where people of all ages and backgrounds can come together to learn and share their love of books and reading.

Libraries Can Help With Education

Many libraries have connections for tutoring, early literacy programs, and summer reading programs. Googling a topic does not equate to learning about it. There is more than just one paragraph to know about a topic, and the library is where everything is written about extensively. So next time there’s a topic you’re interested in, try doing a deep dive by checking out a couple books. Take the time to teach your child how to search for information on any and all topics they may wish to explore!

Libraries Are a Great Place to Relax

Libraries are usually very quiet and provide a great environment for relaxation. Many libraries have couches or comfortable chairs in certain areas to encourage longer stays. Librarians don’t care whether you check a book out before reading it there, just make sure that when you’re done you put it back where you found it!

Libraries play an important role in the United States. They provide access to information and learning opportunities for all Americans. They are also places where people can come together to share their love of books and reading. Celebrating this Library Month will be beneficial for both you and your preschooler!
