To your little one, Valentine’s Day may appear to be a day where chocolate and candy abound and pink and red heart decorations grace every surface imaginable. While these things are definitely hallmarks of the holiday many around the world celebrate today, they don’t tell the whole story. This year, help your little one understand the meaning behind this love-filled day in a new, fun way!
The ancient Romans, the Christian church, and multiple people with the name Valentine all influenced the holiday we celebrate today. Over time, the celebrations of these ancient people spread to countries around the world, including the United States. Soon, Valentine greetings became commonplace and the holiday became all about celebrating love!
This year, celebrate the special occasion with your little one by not only showing them you love them, but also letting them show love to others! Allow them to call or FaceTime a grandparent or special figure in their life or even make a card to send to show them how much they care.
Love may be a hard concept to explain to your preschooler, but the easiest way to show them what love is all about is through your actions. Make this Valentine’s Day extra special by doing something with your little one that is out of the ordinary! Whether you make a festive breakfast together at home, take them to get a treat after preschool, or play one of their favorite games with them before bed, your love for them can be shown in many different ways this year by giving them your time!
