8 Books for Your Preschooler’s Summer Reading List

8 Books for Your Preschooler’s Summer Reading List

School’s out!  But that doesn’t mean your preschooler’s education stops!  Summer is the perfect time to expand your home library, or even visit your local library!  Make a visit to your local library part of your weekly schedule, and help your child work their way up to 1000 books before kindergarten.  Checking out books at your library can help you rotate the books this summer, and then you can buy your preschooler’s favorites.

Here are some books to look for, at the library and online! Look for books that…

Build good character:

We’re All Wonders is inspired by the bestseller Wonder, now a major motion picture. There is now a nationwide movement to Choose Kind.  “Parents and educators can introduce the importance of choosing kind to younger readers with this gorgeous picture book, featuring Auggie and Daisy on an original adventure, written and illustrated by R. J. Palacio.”

In Be Kind, your young preschooler will learn how to help others feel better, stand up to bullies, and help make the world a better place.  They will learn how to be a good friend and recognize the need for kindness.

Expand their world:

Help your child discover the world around them with Around the World, a Follow the Trail Book.  Help the animals find their home by tracing the trail.  Your child will find their inner-explorer with The Little Explorer: A Pioneer Primer.  Your preschooler will “learn all about the most influential explorers who searched the world far and wide in this engaging and colorful board book perfect for pioneers-in-training!”

Will help them fall asleep:

If you’re looking for new bedtime stories, these are great to keep on their nightstand.  Don’t Blink is a fun, interactive book for your procrastinating preschooler.  “Here’s how it works: if you can avoid getting to the end of this book, you can avoid bedtime, simple as that. (It’s a pretty sweet deal, actually.) But each time you blink, you have to turn a page. Those are just the rules. So whatever you do, DON’T BLINK!”

Bedtime for Mommy will turn the tables on your preschooler.  Let them read (and practice!) how to put their own parents to bed for a change!  Bedtime for Mommy is “a hilarious reversal of the classic bedtime routine in which a little girl puts Mommy (and then Daddy) to bed.”

Teach new habits:

Good Night Octopus and How to be a Big Kid help your preschooler learn to do daily activities on their own.  Use this summer to instill these new habits in your child’s routine!

Make sure that your child makes time for reading every day and keep it a part of their daily schedule at home!  These books will help keep your child engaged in learning, even throughout the summer.
