Can you smell them now? There is something refreshing about freshly baked cookies and goodies coming from your very own kitchen. It is even more special when your preschooler gets to be included in this yummy-smelling baking process!
The following are some cookie recipes and ideas to make with your preschooler.
Keep it Simple
Do not be afraid to buy the “ready to bake” cookies from the grocery store. There is no written parent law that states you and your preschooler must make cookies from scratch! Nestle and Pillsbury make wonderful not-from-scratch options. (There will be good store brands, as well.) Your child will enjoy the process of shaping the cookie dough into desired shapes and watching them bake. Using cookie cutters can also make it extra fun.
Icing
Any cookie can have added icing for extra fun. Check out Sally’s Baking Addiction online for a recipe to make cookie icing. The article is called Easy Glaze Icing for Decorating Cookies. The ingredients are 3 c. confectioners’ sugar, ½ tsp pure vanilla extract, 2 tsp light corn syrup, 4.5-5 tbsp water, and a pinch of salt. This easy to make recipe will be a hit with the kids!
No Bake Cookies
If you do not desire to bake cookies, you and your preschooler can make no-bake cookies. The blog, Cooking Classy, has online recipes for a variety of no-bake flavors, including chocolate, peanut butter, and oatmeal. There is also an included video for visual instructions. Your preschooler’s arms will get a workout when making these cookies!
Baking homemade goodies is a fun process for some, but not all! It is okay if you do not do the fanciest of cookie recipes with your preschooler. On the other hand, if baking is your thing, enjoy sharing your enjoyment with your child. Either way, the end goal is the same. It is all about spending time with one another, and of course, the yummy treat!
