Though the seasons are changing, there is still some fun to be had outdoors. There are simple supplies from nature that you and your preschooler can pick up to be able to have some fall crafting fun together (for some of these ideas, you can find them on a scavenger hunt).
- Find some rocks and leaves of different sizes. When back at home, have your preschooler paint them. If you are up for it, your preschooler can paint these items while outside.
- Have your preschooler collect a variety of sticks. These sticks can be held in a basket (or any convenient container) and stored outside when back at home. Your child can use these sticks to design and create different scenes (dinosaurs, stick people, houses, anything!).
- With leftover sticks, encourage your preschooler to build a nest and add leaves and other outdoor items from nature. Your child’s unique designs will be fun to observe.
- Collect leaves of varying types and have your preschooler trace the leaves on paper (or the ground using sidewalk chalk). Then, your child can turn the tracing into a person or made-up animal. The possibilities are endless.
- With leftover leaves, have your child rip them up into small pieces. These pieces can then act as a “filler” for another craft. For example, you could trace your child’s hand and have your preschooler glue the ripped-up leaves in the center.
- You or your child can draw a tree trunk on construction paper. Then, your child can glue on real leaves to make it look like a miniature tree.
Not only is it conveniently free to use “nature supplies”, but it is a fun way to let your preschooler enjoy nature in the process. If getting out in the woods is not doable, your child will still benefit from collecting outside items from your neighborhood or a local park. Your preschooler can enjoy the fall crafting regardless!
