It is a guarantee! You and your preschooler will be in situations that will require your undivided attention, and where your preschooler will have to stay engaged in some other activity (and hopefully out of trouble)!
Preschoolers already get a lot of screen time; so it may be neat to consider some alternative options to occupy your child’s time while you are on the go. Whether you must take your preschooler to one of your appointments, or if you both will have to be in the vehicle for a long stretch of time, here are some ideas.
- Proactively have a “Ready To-Go Pack” put together, well before you ever have to take your preschooler on the go! This way, you can grab it at the last minute if necessary. You can fill this bag with activity sheets, sticker scenes (some are even reusable), markers, or a new notebook. The options are endless. You can fill the bag with whatever things that your preschooler would enjoy.
- Keep the “Ready To-Go Pack” fresh! Only let your preschooler play with the items in this bag when you are truly on the go. Hopefully, this will allow your child to play with the activity for a longer period of time since it is truly fresh for them.
- If you know in advance that your preschooler must join you at your appointment, you can put together a magnetic activity box. You can use a metal lunch box, for example, and fill it with magnetic alphabet letters and/or a variety of miscellaneous magnets. The magnets will be easily transportable in this special container.
These are just some ideas to help your preschooler stay engaged while on the go! They can use their imaginations while staying occupied. As a result, your outing should go smoother for both of you. This is a win-win for all involved!
