It’s summertime…and the livin’ is easy!

In summer, children have fun making memories and discovering new ways to learn. It’s a time for being outside, making new friends at camps, and playing freely. Get creative with this colorful hands-on activity that will brighten the days long after the sun sets. With a few simple supplies, this Sun Threading activity is a fun way to spend family time while improving your child’s skills (an adult must closely supervise this activity). Engaging in this activity prompts using words about colors and shapes to broaden vocabulary. Describing different textures and patterns fosters important language skills. During the process of creating, your child may develop narratives or stories, so encourage expressing and elaborating on the ideas. The fine motor skills required for threading pipe cleaners and beads are closely linked to the development of handwriting skills. Strengthening these muscles through hands-on activities lays the groundwork for later success in writing and letter formation. When the creation comes to life, hang it in a safe place for your child to enjoy, and celebrate the joy of making art and memories together.
