Snack: Banana Sushi

Banana Sushi is the way to go when you’re craving a healthy snack!

A banana-peanut butter sandwich that looks like sushi – how can that be? Have fun spreading, wrapping, and chopping together while talking about how things are not always what they seem to be at first glance.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 flour tortilla
  • 1 banana, peeled
  • 2-3 Tablespoons peanut butter
  • 1/2 Tablespoon of Nutella

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Spread peanut butter on one side of a tortilla.
  2. Add a thin line of Nutella.
  3. Peel banana and place on top of Nutella. *keep the banana as straight as possible
  4. Roll tortilla tightly around the banana.
  5. Slice your roll into 1/2 inch rounds.
  6. For fun, try using chop sticks to pick up your banana sushi.

Literacy Connection:

These Colors Are Bananas by Tamara Shopsin & Jason Fulford, published in association with the Whitney Museum of American Art, is inspired by how artists see the world differently. It gives a fresh look in how to talk with preschoolers about color naming, observing details, and making assumptions about what colors things in the natural world must be.  What kind of difference can you make in the world by letting go of the preconceived notions of colors?
