Snack: Ants on a Log

Ants on a Log is an age-old favorite snack!

You may have never really thought about it, but ants are social insects. This explains why they live in large colonies together! Have fun preparing the ingredients together by washing the celery, spreading the filling, and counting the raisins for a healthy snack that looks just like an army of ants! You can even invite some friends along to join the fun.

Literacy Connection:

The Little Red Ant and the Great Big Crumb by Shirley Climo, the Mexican variation of an old Spanish folktale, illustrates the power of believing in your own strength even if you are very small. Children both young and old can relate to thinking they are too little to accomplish something difficult and then learn to work hard and overcome any obstacles. It’s an important message for all to learn!
