Craft: Sidewalk Chalk Paint

Enjoy this craft all summer long!

The sidewalk is a safe way to venture outside without going too far, and your imagination is the only limit! You can trace your child’s outline and let him fill it while learning about where the major organs are. Or try recreating a life-sized version of some classic games like checkers, Simon, and Twister, or maybe tap into the inner artist by designing a colorful mural.

Materials Needed:

  • Corn Starch
  • Water
  • Food Coloring
  • Muffin Tin
  • Fork
  • Paint brushes

Procedure:

  1. Mix 1/4 cup corn starch to 1/4 cup of water.
  2. Stir until well mixed.

*It is a little tough at first so hang in there; a fork works best for mixing.

  1. Add food coloring.

The “paint” will go on the sidewalk a bit watery but will soon dry into a chalky picture

Literacy Connection:  Sidewalk Flowers by JonArno Lawson is a wordless picture book that shows a simple story about appreciating the beauty of the world around you while spreading a little kindness along the way. It is a story that will be retold a new way every time and can spark infinite conversations!
