Craft: Heart Yarn Decoration

A little bit of love goes a long way!
Love and kindness go hand-in-hand, but love is a feeling that can be hard to put a finger on. Acts of kindness are a tangible way to teach the abstract idea of love and will help to form a definition for feelings that are big. It is important to give your child the necessary tools of language that are needed to express complex feelings. This yarn heart craft is the perfect activity to bring the idea of love to life! Little hands will build important hand muscles while cutting the shapes. Winding the yarn in and out of the shape to form the bulk of the heart will nurture concentration and fine motor skills. While you are making your yarn heart together, tell family stories that celebrate this special bond. It is a happy way to bring some heartfelt cheer to your home! Who will your child want to give this special gift to?
Supplies:
-Piece of cardboard
-Pen
-Scissors
-Hot glue gun
-Skein of yarn the color of your choice
Directions:
1. Draw a large heart on cardboard. Draw a second, smaller heart inside the first heart, leaving about an inch of space in between the two.
2. Carefully cut out along the outside and inside of the hearts you drew.
3. Place a large drop of hot glue at the center of the top of the heart. Glue the end of the yarn in place.
4. Begin wrapping the yarn around the edges of the heart. Continue your way all the way around the heart until you reach your starting point. Be sure to wrap tightly to avoid leaving space between layers.
5. Cut the yarn an inch or so beyond where you left off wrapping and tuck the remainder of the yarn under the already wrapped portion to secure it.
6. Find a great place to display your work!
