Snack: Counting Snacks

1-2-3 and a bite for me!
Playing with your food is fine as long as you are learning, isn’t it? Your child will boost his or her math skills with this hands-on activity that promotes sorting, counting, and patterns. Counting with one-to-one correspondence is an important skill to practice and helping your child to engage with the language of math with a favorite snack is a sure way to sharpen this knowledge. Be sure to have your child describe the shapes, numbers, textures, and tastes for extra practicing new vocabulary and improving literacy skills.
Gather:
Cupcake liners
Various bite-sized finger foods
Directions:
1. Fill each cupcake liner with one type of snack. Be sure to place a different number of bites in each cupcake liner.
2. Have your child count the number of bites in each cup before eating the snack.
3. Have fun discussing how the snack stimulates the five senses!
