This fun and creative sponge sailboat craft is a wonderful summer activity that combines hands-on crafting with imaginative play.

Children will enjoy building their own sailboat and watching it float while developing important fine motor and problem-solving skills.

Materials:

• Sponge
• Colored construction paper
• Wooden skewer or craft stick
• Glue
• Scissors (Adult use only)
• Shallow container or bin filled with water

Instructions:

1. Cut a large triangle from construction paper to create the sail. Carefully insert the wooden skewer through the sail.
2. Push the skewer into the center of the sponge to create the mast, and add any additional paper decorations to personalize your boat.
3. Fill a shallow container with water, and place your sailboat in the water and watch it float!
4. Experiment with different sail sizes and shapes to see how they affect movement.
