Craft: Caterpillar Bookmark

A DIY bookmark
Where is the ultimate place to encourage the excitement of books? The library! Venture out on a special trip to your local library for the momentous milestone of a first library card, and then celebrate the occasion with a cute caterpillar bookmark. Foster a love of reading that also includes the habit of caring for and respecting books to prepare your child for lifelong learning. This simple DIY bookmark involves some tracing, cutting, counting, and gluing that is great practice for little hands. You can also use language for emphasizing shapes, recognizing colors, and following steps. When your child is done, he or she will have their own hand-made creation that can be saved in a favorite book!
You will need:
-Two or more colors of paper for your caterpillar
-Scissors
-Glue
-Googly Eyes
-Pen
-A small round lid from a water bottle or similar container
What to do:
1. Trace a total of six circles on your colored papers using the round lid as a stencil.
2. Cut out your circles.
3. Apply glue to the edge of one circle, and slightly overlap a second circle on top of it to glue them together, alternating in a pattern of colors. Repeat until all 6 circles are attached in a row.
4. Cut out two small antennae for the caterpillar’s head and glue them in place.
5. Glue on the googly eyes, and draw on a mouth.
6. After your caterpillar is completely dry, help him find a home in your favorite book!
