Say “hello” to your new friend!
Doing arts & crafts with children helps the imagination grow, and even if you live far away from a wintery wonderland, you can still create a snowman with all the magic of make-believe! With a few simple reusable materials and tons of creativity, you can help your child with important developmental skills. Using scissors develops fine-motor skills, completing tasks independently improves self-esteem, and having small talks about the process improves speaking and listening skills. When you are done, set up a winter village and have some fun with your wintertime friends!
Supplies:
– Painting sponge brush
– White craft paint
– Empty cardboard tube
– Hot glue gun
– Scissors
– Orange paper
– Pipe cleaner
– 2 Pom poms (matching color of pipe cleaner)
– Ribbon—about 8-10”
– A set of matching buttons
– 2 googly eyes
Directions:
1. Begin by painting your tube white with your craft paint.
2. Once the paint has dried, glue on the two eyes.
3. Cut a small triangle shaped nose out of your orange paper and glue it on under the eyes.
4. Now, glue on your three buttons below the nose. Be sure to leave room to add his scarf later!
5. At the snowman’s eye level, place a dot of glue on each side of the tube. Glue the pipe cleaner ends to each side. You can cut the pipe cleaner to the size you want before glueing it down.
6. Next, put another dot of glue at each end of the pipe cleaner and attach the pom poms.
7. Finally, wrap the ribbon around the tube to make a scarf below the nose. After bringing the ribbon all the way around, you should have a couple inches left on each end. Glue the ribbon in place and then fold downward and glue in place.
