Summer Safety Tips

Summer Safety Tips at a Kids 'R' Kids West Frisco, preschool, childcare, daycare

If those April showers have finally let up and you’ve got a few hyper preschool children on your hands, head outside and take in the sunshine. Family hikes, picnics at the park, and pool days are sure to keep your kiddos entertained, but remember to stay healthy and protected with these outdoor safety tips.

Be careful with plants.

If you’re hiking or going for a nature walk, be cautious of new plants/berries. Preschool children are often curious about nature and may come into contact with questionable (or even poisonous) plants. If your child is having a skin reaction, call your local poison control center to learn about other symptoms and potential causes.

Wear insect repellent.

As temperatures rise, you may see an increase in beetles, cicadas, dragonflies and bees—not to mention the many mosquitoes and ants that follow those frequent seasonal rainstorms. Keep your preschooler protected anytime you’re outside by applying insect repellent to clothing and exposed skin.

Wear helmets and pads.

Sunny days are perfect for bike rides and rollerblading, but remember—safety first! Have your little ones put on knee/elbow pads and helmets before heading off on their set of wheels. Don’t forget to double check that your children’s helmets are secured properly—a loose fit equals less protection.

Drink lots of water!

Hydration is key to beating the heat. Adults are recommended to drink sixty four ounces of water per day, but your preschooler doesn’t need this much. The amount of water your child should drink each day varies depending on height, weight, and age, but ensure your kiddo is getting roughly five glasses of water a day and they’ll be good to go.

So, break out the slip & slide, apply some sunscreen and soak up the sun while keeping these outdoor safety tips in mind. You can bet your preschool children will stay happy, healthy, and safe this season while having the time of their lives.
