This summer, get your preschooler in the kitchen for some quality family time. Grab your aprons and whisks and get to cooking!
Cookies are a preschool favorite.
Cookies are always a good idea. You can pre-make the cookie dough, and then let your little one roll it out and cut out the dough with fun shaped cookie cutters. Your preschooler can make the homemade icing with a little bit of supervision. Color the icing with different shades of food coloring, and let your little one’s creative juices flow with the cookie decorating. If you’re feeling extra brave, pull out the sprinkles and edible glitter for the tops of the cookies!
Make breakfast with your preschooler.
Breakfast is one of the most important meals! It is also possibly the best meal to make to learn baking. Mix up some drop biscuit dough, and let your little one pour in the ingredients into the bowl as you measure them off. You can also make simple muffins, homemade granola bars, or a fancy fruit pizza. Little ones can place their fruit into a beautiful rainbow shape and name their colors while decorating! Be creative, and let your little one help with as much as they can.
Preschoolers can wash and scrub vegetables.
Vegetables aren’t usually a preschooler’s favorite treat, but if you can get them involved in the preparation, they just might fancy them a little bit more. Curious Chef has created a knife set that little kids can use without risk of being cut. This means your little chef can wash vegetables like celery, tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, and so on, and then chop and slice them all! Research has suggested that children are ten percent more likely to enjoy eating vegetables if they help with the preparation. Ten percent may not seem like much, but those percentages add up!
