Helping Preschoolers Establish a Bedtime Routine

Helping Preschoolers Establish a Bedtime Routine at Kids 'R' Kids Tomball, daycare, preschool, childcare, learning academy

Bedtime can be one of the hardest times of the day, but it doesn’t have to be! By establishing a routine that works for you and your preschooler, night time woes can be gone for good!

The first step in any bedtime routine that you establish is to stick to it. If bedtime is a strict 7 o’clock, try to compromise as little as possible. It may seem daunting to think that your little one has to be in bed by that time every night, but you can find ways to fit things in around it. Needing a date night with your spouse? Put your preschooler to bed and then have a babysitter come over immediately after so you can enjoy a night out of the house!

Another way to ease the transition into a new nightly routine for your little one is to make sure there is at least one part of their routine in which they are in charge. This doesn’t have to be anything huge, but can simply be accomplished by letting them pick out their favorite book to read before bed or choose what pair of pajamas they want to wear. Giving your little one something to look forward to each night will surely make it easier on both them and you!

Lastly, it’s important to recognize when a new routine isn’t working. If the routine becomes too strict for you or your preschooler, don’t be afraid to change it! Finding something that truly works for everyone will be well worth it in the end.

Although establishing routines can be difficult, having little ones on a schedule can be a rewarding thing for the whole family!
