Inexpensive Indoor Preschool Activities When It’s Too Hot Outside

Walking the thin line between getting sunburnt and getting burnt out on boredom can be tricky. Don’t let your preschooler’s summer break be dull or expensive. There are plenty of ways to plan a summer that is exciting, out of the heat, and (best of all) won’t break the budget!

Think Crafty!

The arts and crafts your parents inspired you to do are just as easy to do with your kiddos today. Think thrifty and try to use recycled goods as often as possible when prepping materials to start with. Cardboard toilet paper rolls can become puppets, magazine clippings can become collages and newspaper goes great with paper maché.

Art for Everyone!

Check out your local art museum. Many of the larger, more historic galleries in the nation have trended toward offering free admittance to their permanent collections for all patrons (young or old) in order to appeal to a wider spectrum of visitors. Youth activity centers within art museums are also on the rise, to give a hands-on experience for preschoolers and older kids.

Libraries Aren’t For Dinosaurs!

With the right amount of parental influence, we can create a new generation of library lovers. For many of us, our first library card was a rite of passage. Library cards are almost always free to the public and can help your preschooler learn early lessons about responsibility and returning borrowed goods. Libraries always have sections catered to preschool visitors, and there’s at least one in every metropolitan area. When was the last time YOU checked out a book from the library?
