February 14th is a day focused on all things love! While your preschooler may not be able to grasp the meaning of romantic love, they can still experience the holiday in their own way. This year, help them show love to others and understand why we celebrate this special day each year!
For centuries, Valentine’s Day celebrations have existed in many different countries around the world. The ancient Romans, the Christian church, and multiple people with the name Valentine all influenced the holiday we celebrate today. Over time, the celebrations of these ancient people spread to countries around the world, including the United States. Soon, valentine greetings became commonplace and the holiday became all about celebrating love!
This year, celebrate the special occasion with your little one by not only showing them you love them, but also letting them spread love themselves! Allow them to call or FaceTime a grandparent or special figure in their life or even make a card to send to show them how much they care.
Another way to show your preschooler the true meaning of this holiday is through your own actions! The way you show others you care will ultimately influence your child’s view of love. Whether you make cookies for your neighbors, take cards to a retirement community, or take the time to call loved ones on the phone, a little effort will impact your preschooler in big ways!
