It’s back to school time, and you don’t want to leave anything off the list! Here’s our checklist for getting ready for back to school!
Celebrate the end of summer with a party!
This celebration will help your child recognize the end of summer schedules and the start of the new, stricter morning schedule.
New clothes
Everyone’s favorite: clothes! If your preschoolers are headed back to school in August, or early September, keep their summer tees and shorts in the rotation for those first few weeks of school. But take advantage of back-to-school sales and grab some things they’ll need for the fall, and be sure to size up! Freshen up your preschooler’s wardrobe with just enough to get you to the winter months or their next growth spurt!
Lunch rotation
Lunch for your preschooler doesn’t have to get complicated. Pin a few lunch ideas to help with those early days of school. Turkey wraps, sliced fruit, and cubes of cheese make pulling lunch together a breeze! Prepare as much as you can ahead of time, so all you will have to do is fill the lunchbox and go!
School supplies
Back to school supplies are everywhere! Do your best to reuse supplies from the year before: folders, backpacks, lunch boxes, and nap mats should be able to withstand 2 or 3 years of preschool! If this is your child’s first year of preschool, invest in a few good staples and you won’t have to buy anything new until kindergarten! If you are buying school supplies for the class, do your best to stick to the requests from the teacher.
Calendar
Write it all down. Your child’s school will share a calendar for the school year. Make sure you put everything on your personal calendar—whether you keep it on your phone, Outlook at work, or written in a day planner, put the whole year’s school events in your calendar. No early dismissal day will sneak up on you, and you’ll know exactly when the last day of school is!
Routine
Start the day off right. Practice your new morning routine a few days leading up to the start of preschool. Make sure everyone gets up at the right time, and ensure there is enough time to eat breakfast, change clothes and can leave the house at the right time.
