How Do You Celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day?

How Do You Celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day? at Kids 'R' Kids Landstar, preschool, childcare, daycare, learning academy

Saint Patrick’s Day is much more than dressing up your preschool child in green. It’s an Irish holiday that has been around since AD 461. Though originally deemed a Catholic holiday, it has turned into a tradition that people of all religious backgrounds keep to remember Saint Patrick’s mission in Ireland.

Make Irish stew.

You can take your celebration the traditional route and throw some Irish stew in the crockpot and serve it with Irish Soda Bread—a very common meal for those in Ireland. You can bake scones together for dessert and include everyone for a fun experience. With a taste of Ireland and a good book on the history of Saint Patrick’s Day, you can have a warm, inviting, and educational evening with the whole family.

Let your preschooler color their food green!

You could also take a more modern route for your celebration and color everything green! Try out these Green Pancakes together for breakfast and serve alongside honeydew melon and kiwi fruit. Let your imagination run! You can turn almost anything green. Make green cookies, cupcakes with a shamrock cutout, and Leprechaun Lemonade

Craft the holiday.

If you want to celebrate with things other than food, break out the craft supplies and get creative. You can make leprechaun beards out of orange paper, or a bouquet of shamrocks with cutout felt and green chenille stems. If you’re feeling extra ambitious, try out this 3D Over the Rainbow craft that shows the pot of gold at the end of a colorful rainbow. All you need is paper, glue, and a few pennies!

Whatever you decide to do, make it fun and create memories together. Use these ideas to start a new Saint Patrick’s Day tradition with your little ones, and don’t forget to wear green! Read a few books about the life of Saint Patrick and his mission to the people of Ireland as we celebrate his contributions to our lives.
