Reading Your Favorite Books to Your Preschool Children

Reading Your Favorite Books to Your Preschool Children at Kids 'R' Kids Landstar, preschool, daycare, childcare, learning academy

We all have those books from our childhood that took us places that we could never actually go and helped us to peek into the lives of those from long ago. As we’ve grown up and had preschool children of our own, there are pieces of those stories that still resonate with us, and as parents, we have the opportunity to pass on those stories to the next generation.

Set aside time for reading.

Create a time each day to set aside for reading, and pull out those old books to share them with your preschooler. Your enthusiasm for the characters and plot will intrigue them and cause them to fall in love with the stories as well. Let them ask questions about the story and engage in conversation on the characters that you loved.

Find what interests your preschooler.

In addition to your favorite books, try to find out what interests them, and help them develop their own set of favorite books that they can someday share with their children. If your little ones are interested in dinosaurs, find all the books you can about dinosaurs, and after reading them all, let them pick their favorites to keep reading over and over again. Use their interests to increase their learning abilities. Reading about subjects they love will encourage them to pick up books and learn!

Relight the reading candle.

Reading is the key to the portal of so many new places. Grab a book and go places with your little one. Relight the reading candle, and make reading a tradition in your family. As Dr. Seuss once said, “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” Travel the world with your little one as you share with them the books that took you on your favorite childhood journeys.
