Ideas for Celebrating Find a Rainbow Day With Your Preschooler

National Find a Rainbow Day is coming up on April 3rd! On this holiday, we can explore, search for, and enjoy this special beauty in nature. But what if the weather is not conducive to you and your preschooler finding a real rainbow out in nature? We have some creative ideas to help you celebrate Find a Rainbow Day with your preschooler, no matter the weather!

Have a rainbow scavenger hunt.

Help your preschooler collect items around the house in the colors of the rainbow. Together, lay them out in order to form the rainbow! For example, you can create your rainbow with a red towel, an orange toy, a yellow crayon, etc.

Read a book about rainbows!

We recommend Elmer and the Rainbow by David McKee, The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister. Curl up and enjoy a cozy storytime together!

Bake a rainbow treat!

For brave bakers, try cutting a bundt cake in half and turning it on its ends so that it sits up, forming the arch of the rainbow. You can mix up some icing of all different colors, and let your preschooler ice the rainbow cake! To keep it simple instead, you can also transform vanilla cupcakes or sugar cookies into a rainbow feast with just a couple drops of food coloring. Your child will love mixing up the colors in the batter!

Whether you’re going on a scavenger hunt, reading a book, or baking a rainbow-themed treat, there are lots of ways you can explore the world of color and create special memories with your preschooler. Have a colorful Find a Rainbow Day!
