September 21 – World Gratitude Day with Your Preschooler

world gratitude day

Gratitude is such an important thing. If we forget to be thankful, we will forget about so many good things in our life and just let blessings pass us by. There are many easy ways to encourage your preschooler to practice gratitude on World Gratitude day and every day – a few are below!

  1. Create a gratitude list! With your preschooler’s help, create a gratitude list on your phone. Every time you and your little one are in a waiting room, traveling in the car, or just needing something to do, you can pull out your phone and add things that you’re both thankful for to the list on your phone. These can be as simple and broad or specific as you’d like them to be. When your little one has a bit of an off day, you can read over the list and encourage them to be thankful for all the good things in their life.
  2. Practice gratitude as a family! When you sit down for dinner at night, go around the dinner table and say one thing that was a blessing that day. By recalling specific instances of thankfulness each day, your preschooler will form a habit of gratitude. This is a great way to get your little one talking and also a good way to hear about your spouse’s or kids’ days.
  3. Give gratitude to others! Showing others that you’re thankful for them is such an easy way to practice gratitude. Bake cookies with your little one and take them to your local police department or fire station or make care packages to take to a few of the doctors and nurses at your local hospital. There are always so many ways we can show others we appreciate them.

Don’t let gratitude last for just a day – practice it every day with your little one!
