Did you know that the State of Florida was one of the first in the country to offer free pre-kindergarten classes for all 4 year old children, regardless of their income? The Voluntary Prekindergarten Education Program, or VPK for short, was designed to set up our children for a successful future by building a strong foundation for school early on. The free VPK programs will prepare early learners for success in kindergarten and beyond and studies have shown that children who attend high-quality preschool programs perform better in academic and social situations later in life.
Children must live in the State of Florida and be born on or before September 4th of the current school year. If your child was born between February 2nd and Sept 1st, you are allowed to postpone enrollment until the following year when your child will be 5.
Another great feature of this program is that parents can choose their own educational setting and provider. There are many preschool & day care centers across the State that offer free VPK programs. It is important to note though, that although every center that offers VPK classes must be certified, not all centers are equal.
