Summer is arguably the most exciting time of year for young children. School is out and they have freedom to do activities that don’t happen during the school year. If you are looking for ways to keep your children entertained & engaged for the next few months, here are a few tips that will make this the best summer they’ve ever had.
- Change the rules! – Children have to follow strict schedules during the school year so summer is a great time to loosen up and change things around. Allow your young ones to stay up later, eat lunch outside, stay in their pajamas all day, or spend the day at a friend’s pool. This is the perfect time to enjoy the little things you miss out on during the year.
- Introduce something new. – School routines don’t leave a lot of time to do the activities we wish we could be doing, so summer presents the best chance for you and your child to get out and go. Visits to a local museum or play center, art classes, mother/child yoga classes, and family game nights are just a few examples of fun activities you will have plenty of time for in the summer.
- Get Outside. – Children have all day to play hard in the summer. Pickup kickball games, after-dinner bike rides, family walks, flashlight tag, swimming, and hiking are great activities to enjoy during the warm weather months.
- Enroll in Summer Camp! – Summer camp is a great opportunity for your children to stay active and learn exciting new things. Not only do summer camps offer great curriculum that help extends your child’s learning throughout the summer, they also present a place for your child to try new things and make new friends. The Kids ‘R’ Kids Summer Camp theme for this year is American Road Trip. It includes 8 weeks of amazing adventures, fun activities, field trips & water play. It’s not hard to see why it’s a favorite among parents & students alike!
- Change the Scenery. – A weekend trip or an overnight getaway is a great way to change the pace while keeping costs low. Whether you decide to camp under the stars or visit your favorite amusement park, a small trip will help make this summer memorable.
- Enjoy Seasonal Activities. – Backyard BBQs, trips to the ice cream shop, attending a local ball game, fireworks, picnics, drive-in movies, and catching lightning bugs are all traditional summer activities that will help you celebrate the season. These kind of memories will stay with your children a lifetime!
Play in the Water. – Nothing can beat the heat of a hot Florida summer day like some water play. Whether you let your child run wild in the sprinkler, jump in the pool, wash the family car in the driveway, or have a squirt gun water battle, summer needs to have water activities.
