When my kids were young, I loved it when they had the summers off or school breaks. I got to get them reeled into a quieter lifestyle. Avoid the hustle and bustle of the day-to-day routines that accompany school days. That’s why I loved the Christmas break so much. Along with the many activities the community had planned we made our traditions as well. We had playdates with their friends as well. But it was a pleasure to get in some good quality family time. They loved it as well.

Some Fun Activities To Try This Year

  • Camp Out – What better time to set up a tent in the house and have a sleepover? Bring a basket of goodies to snack on. Maybe some cards or a board game to play.
  • Movie Night – Let the kids stay up on the weekend. Choose a good Christmas movie. Make some popcorn, turn out the lights, get a fire glowing, and snuggle up with your most comfortable blanket. Enjoy the time together.
  • Snowball Fight – My family has incorporated an indoor snowball fight. That’s right, you heard me. Purchase a 50-pack of snowballs, you can find them at an online store. Start throwing them and watch the fun.
  • Gingerbread Houses – Our family loved to make gingerbread houses together. Maybe eating the sugar drops was the best. Whether it is a bought house that you put together or try your hand at DIY graham cracker houses. The kids will have a lot of fun.
  • Bake Cookies – This has been a tradition in my house for many years and many generations. Getting together to make platters of cookies to hand out to our neighbors and friends has become a well-awaited Christmas event. This also teaches your children not only measuring but also the act of giving.
  • Visit the Library – My kids have always loved a trip to the library. From when they were very young, they loved going to story hour or the many events that our local library put on. As they got older, they loved getting lost in the different sections. We came home with an armful of books to enjoy at home. This creates a wonderful love for reading.
  • Scavenger Hunt – Create an outdoor scavenger hunt. Think of things that you know your kids can find easily. Of course, adjust depending on their age. This will give them some outdoor time as well.
