It’s spring and depending on which part of the country you live in, that means rain—lots of rain. So, here are some fun indoor ideas to keep the kiddos occupied when the raindrops start falling without them being on their phones, tablets, or video games all day.

rainy day activities for kids in orlando FLCreate a Home Movie Theater

Turn your living room into a movie theater. Let the kids pick a couple of their favorite films, make popcorn, and gather cozy blankets and pillows. For an added touch, print out movie tickets and create a concession stand (maybe the kitchen counter) with snacks. Watching beloved classics or new films together is an excellent way to bond as a family.

Indoor Treasure Hunt

Spark your children’s imagination with a treasure hunt. Hide small “treasures” around the house and create a map or series of clues to start them on their way. Each clue leads to the next, ending in a treasure chest (perhaps a box of treats or small toys). This isn’t only fun; it’s a fantastic way to get your kids to think critically and solve problems.

Craft Time

Crafting allows kids to express their creativity and improve fine motor skills. Set up a craft station with colored paper, scissors, glue, markers, and recyclable materials. Guide them in making anything from play dough to DIY bookmarks. Websites like Pinterest have a treasure trove of ideas suitable for all ages.

Science Experiments

Speaking of science, try bringing home the wonders of science with safe, simple experiments. Whether making a volcano with baking soda and vinegar, creating homemade slime, or experimenting with water and oil, these activities can be educational, fun, and captivating. They provide a practical, hands-on approach to learning that kids will love.

Read-a-Thon

Most kids love reading or being read to. A great rainy-day activity is creating a cozy reading nook by piling blankets and pillows in a quiet corner, complete with a basket of books suitable for their age. You can include a mix of fiction, non-fiction, interactive, or picture books to cater to each child’s interests. Make it a family event by reading aloud and using different voices for the characters.

Board Games and Puzzles

Another great way to keep the kids engaged and off their devices is to play some good old-fashioned board games or put together puzzles. These activities promote logical thinking and teamwork. Whether it’s a classic game like Monopoly or Scrabble or puzzles ranging from simple to complex, there’s something to suit every child’s interest.

Puppet Shows

Encourage your kids to put on a puppet show. They can use socks or paper bags to create their puppets, or you can make ready-made puppets that require their imagination. Come up with a storyline or find one online, then create a small stage and enjoy the performance.
