Fun Things To Do In The Spring

Spring is here and the weather is already heating up here in Florida. Now is the perfect time to plan fun family outings and outdoor activities. You don’t have to go far from home to have a memorable and meaningful time together! This is also a great time to get your kids involved in a project or two at home.

Here’s a list of 9 activities you can do to make the most of Spring this year.

#1. Have Fun Outside

There are many ways to make time outside more fun for your kids during spring. You could plan a backyard barbeque or hot dog roast around your fire pit. You could also plan fun sporting events like a jump-rope contest, tug of war contest, or set up an obstacle course. What could be more fun for your kids than a Slip’ N Slide or playing in sprinklers on a hot day?

#2. Plant Flowers

Unlike adults, most kids love getting their hands dirty. If you are planning to liven up your landscaping with flowers, include your kids in the process! You can bring them with you to pick out flowers and talk to them about the vital role that flowers play in feeding bees and butterflies. When you get home, you can teach them how to plant flowers. You may even want to set up a watering schedule to keep your kids involved in their upkeep.

#3. Spring Clean Together

Your kids might grumble at the mention of spring clean, but it’s a great activity to teach them how to work collaboratively. Studies suggest that children have a natural desire to work with their family, to feel like part of the team. Too often, we don’t give them the opportunity to, and they lose interest as they grow up. Including your kids when you do chores, like spring-cleaning, will help your kids develop a habit of helpfulness and learn to work as a team. You can include them by asking them to help you gather supplies or assign them a simple task like dusting or sorting laundry. You could also recruit them to help you choose clothes or toys to donate to kids in need.

#4. Get Crafty

Making crafts encourages creativity and helps your kids develop their fine motor skills. There are many fun spring crafts you could do together, from paper dandelions to an easy-to-make birdfeeder. You could also use craft time to teach your kids about an upcoming spring holiday such as Easter, Passover, or Ramadan. On Pinterest, you can find tons of fun holiday-related crafts, from Easter wreaths to pretend seder plates for Passover or a good deeds tree for Ramadan.

#5. Plan a Day Trip

It’s amazing how many wonderful places there are to explore around us. Sit down with your family and make a list of places nearby that would make a fun day trip. If you want to make the planning process more exciting, you could ask each family member to pitch their top choice. Then have a vote on what sounds the best. Once you’ve decided, be sure to take a few minutes to plan out the day from breakfast to dinner (be sure to include pit stops and rests for little ones).

#6. Visit a Park or Zoo

Children come alive when they are outside or engaging with animals. Spring is an ideal time to visit a local park or zoo before the weather gets too hot. You could explore a big zoo or get up close to animals at a petting zoo. Local parks can be just as fun as the zoo! You can walk nature paths together then enjoy a picnic or play ultimate Frisbee.

#7. Play Putt-Putt

Mini golf is another outdoor activity that the whole family can enjoy. Mini-golf courses are full of unique challenges and beautiful landscaping. You are sure to have a great time and many laughs as you compete against each other.

#8. Visit a Children’s Museum

If you are looking for a safe, fun indoor activity, check out a local children’s museum-like Lakeland’s Explorations V! Children’s museums let children learn and explore using their five senses. The kid-at-heart in you may be just as inspired walking through and participating in the exhibits. Your kids will leave excited about the arts and sciences.

#9. Participate in a Camp

If you’re saving up your vacation days for summer, you can sign your kid up for camp! Many groups, including local libraries, offer programs to help parents keep their kids engaged and entertained.

Spring is an excellent opportunity to spend quality time with your kids. We hope you’ll take advantage of the warm weather and longer days to have fun with your kids.
