Fourteen Ways Parents Can Help Their Preschooler Succeed at School Pt 2

Day care in East Orlando FL

During our last blog post, we discussed 7 great ways to get hands on with your child’s early academic experience. Our experts continue to discuss tips for being actively involved with your preschooler’s education:

Tip #8 – Volunteer in Class Activities

Find out what you can do to volunteer in your child’s classroom. Some schools have holiday parties that are run by classroom parents. Others may offer parent reading sessions where moms and dads come in and read the class a book during story time. Talk to your child’s teacher to find out how you can get involved in programs like these.

Tip #9 – Be an Advocate for Your Child

You know your child better than anyone! If you are concerned about your preschooler’s learning or behavior, talk to their teacher and ask for advice. If you feel your child needs special or specific attention in a particular area, let the teacher know. The preschool staff at Kids ‘R’ Kids Avalon Park is incredibly flexible and wants the best for all the students at our campus. We work cooperatively with parents to ensure children are happy, healthy, and excited to learn new skills.

Tip #10 – Demonstrate Positive Attitude about School

By staying excited and involved in your child’s school activities, you are helping them develop a positive attitude towards school and learning. This will help them build confidence as a learner and excel in future academic environments. When children understand that learning can be enjoyable and rewarding, they will put in more effort and have better success down the road.

Tip #11 – Talk with Your Child

Talking & listening to your preschooler both play major roles in their school success. Find out how their day went, what they enjoyed and what they didn’t, and what they look forward to tomorrow. Not only will this help develop their language & memory skills, it shows that you are excited about their experiences, which will keep their enthusiasm about school high.

Tips #12 – Visit the Library

Your local library is a great place for learning and discovery. Your preschooler doesn’t have to already be a reader to enjoy the benefits of a library. Feed your child’s imagination and encourage a love of reading with pictures, stories, and rhymes. Gone are the days of silent libraries, patrolled by grumpy staff. Libraries now offer events, crafts, and a relaxing, bright, and fun environment for enjoying a good book, no matter what age your little one is.

Tip #13 – Celebrate Achievements, No Matter How Small

Offer positive reinforcement for small achievements like completing the alphabet or learning to count to 10. This will inspire your preschooler to keep learning and challenging themselves to reach new heights in their academic success.

Tip #14 – Refine Social Skills by Having Playdates

Social skills are just as important as reading and writing. Learning how to cooperate, work together, and take turns are necessary skills for future school success. You can further develop your child’s social skills by arranging playdates, going to play groups, and meeting friends at the playground. While at home, make sure to be consistent about the simple rules and chores your preschooler must follow like making their bed or putting away their toys.
