Getting your child to sleep can be a difficult task for new parents. At Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Avalon Park, we understand how stressful putting a child to bed can be. Therefore, the staff at Orlando’s Best Day Care center has compiled a few tips to help parents make the transition from an active day to a restful night’s sleep for their infants easier.
Set and keep a specific bedtime
Every child needs to have a set bedtime everyday. Having a routine allows a child’s body become accustomed to winding down and makes bedtime easier to manage. This routine can start with dinner time, then move into bathtime, and finally lying in bed while a family member reads a bedtime story. Consistency is incredibly important with young children.
Turn Off the TV
If you have your young children in the room with you watching television, you should switch it off two hours before the child’s bedtime to create an easier transition. Television is known to heighten some of the senses in the brain, which can cause restlessness leading to poor sleep. Turn off the TV and spend some quiet time reading, talking quietly or listening to soft music before bed to contribute to a soothing and relaxing atmosphere.
Create a Peaceful Environment
An infant will not sleep well in a stressful, loud or unorganized location. Create a peaceful sleeping environment for your child: dim the lights, play soft music, or use a white noise machine to aid her in feeling safe. Sit by your child talking softly and they will soon drift off peacefully into sleep.
As a child becomes accustomed to a consistent routine at bedtime, a smooth transition to sleep can be developed.
