Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world. – Albert Einstein
Kids R Kids Learning Academy embraces the philosophy of learning through play & extra curricular activities. We believe children learn best by doing. Through play children can develop social and cognitive skills, mature emotionally, and gain the self-confidence required to connect with new experiences and environments. They engage in self-discovery, develop leadership skills, foster creativity, and expand leadership skills, all by playing.
Many parents find the concept of learning through play hard to grasp. After all, we were brought up in a time when the learning environment consisted of rigid schedules, idle worksheets, and teacher-directed activities. While many feel play is simply a waste of time, educators and psychologist will agree play is anything but. Play is a very powerful and effective way to build a foundation for educational success. Play allows children to make sense of their world and master their environment, and that’s why we use it along with our award winning curriculum to give your child the best education they deserve.
Below are just a few common play activities and the learning outcome of each:
Playing with Blocks – Block play is a child’s first experience understanding the laws of physics. I know what you are thinking, “Really? How on earth is playing with blocks teaching my child physics?” Think about it. When building with blocks you learn about balance and gravity. When building a block tower, if your blocks aren’t balanced properly, gravity will take over and the block tower will fall. A child can build a ramp and roll a ball down that ramp – more physics!
Dramatic Play – Here is the best place for children to develop social skills. They have to take turns, share, and cooperate. This is also where imagination is fostered. Children learn to express themselves and pretend to be someone or something else.
Puzzles – Putting together even the simplest of puzzles requires problem solving skills, abstract reasoning and special. This is math at its most basic.
Cooking Activities – This can cover science, nutrition, and math skills. Cooking and eating are also very social activities.
These are just a few activities you will find our children engaged in around the center. To see learning through play in action, please feel free to stop by our classroom!
