How Many Times Have You Heard “That’s Not Fair” From Your Children?

Those situations between siblings and other children that lead to the shout out “That’s Not Fair!” are quite commonplace and a natural phase that kids go through. Somehow they know exactly how much half of a cookie or half of a can of soda poured into cups is – one drop more and “It’s Not Fair.”
Rather than just resorting to the common answer “Life Isn’t Fair”, why not take this opportunity to open the discussion towards understanding fairness, equality and satisfaction with what we receive? Normally, kids first start noticing what is fair when they are in preschool, but many toddlers pick it up even before they can verbalize it. Early understanding of fairness leans more towards the child getting what they want, rather than getting an equal share or what is provided.
