Congress has the power to help to keep kids healthy.
We read an important article in the Orlando Sentinel recently that put the problem of Childhood Obesity in the spotlight. Obesity is the public health crisis of our time, that is for sure, but the real alarming data is the fact that over 23 million children and teens are considered to be obese or overweight in the US. The figures are even worse for Florida, with 1 out of 3 children in those categories. Preschoolers are actually developing diabetes and liver disease as a result.
Our First Lady, Michelle Obama has called on our Nation to reverse this trend and has championed efforts to do just that. Currently a bill called the “The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act, also known as the Child Nutrition Reauthorization bill, has been passed by the Senate and will be considered by the House soon.
This bill would be a combination of education, promotion and regulation.
What do you parents think about this idea???
