Creative movement and activities are beneficial for preschoolers on many different levels.
These activities get the brain and body moving. Doing the activities in the great outdoors is a big plus, too. Allowing for creativity and exercise is a healthy win-win for all.
Here are five outdoor fun and craft activities to do with your preschooler.
- Grab a plastic cup or a plastic cone that can be filled with water. Then, grab some sidewalk chalk. You and/or your preschooler can draw a few bigger shapes on the sidewalk. Your child can then run back and forth with the filled cup or cone and dump water on whichever shape(s) you call out. Allow your child to do this many times. This activity allows your child to practice shapes and listening skills while including healthy exercise.
- You and your preschooler can have much fun with bubbles. Your child could run around blowing bubbles at sidewalk chalk creations. Also, you can blow the bubbles, and your child can chase the bubbles and pop them. Another idea is for you to add watercolor drops to the bubble mixture. Your child can then blow colored bubbles onto white cardstock or construction paper.
- Wet some sidewalk chalk in a small bucket or container. This wet sidewalk chalk makes for bolder drawings on any outdoor artwork.
- Crush up small pieces of sidewalk chalk and place them in the same water container as above. Grab a paintbrush, and your child can “paint” the fence or nearby sidewalk with this chalk water.
- You can save the extra ice from your fast food cup or grab some ice you make in your own freezer. Let your preschooler play with a rubber mallet and crush the ice into small chunks.
Low-cost outdoor fun and craft activities can make for fun times and memories for the family. Have fun getting your creative juices flowing with your special preschooler.
