Screen Free Ways to Engage Preschoolers on the Go

Screen Free Ways to Engage Preschoolers on the Go at Kids 'R' Kids Waterside, preschool, daycare, childcare

Preschoolers are growing and exciting. Quite often, they have boundless energy. This is a wonderful trait unless you are somewhere she has to sit quietly or still. Instead of packing various forms of electronics to entertain him, try packing an on-the-go bag full of screen free options.

The on-the-go bag needs to be a bag used solely when you are away from home. This will help keep the attention of a preschooler because she is unable to play with the items whenever she wants. There is a special time to use what is inside. Remember to keep the bag in order and near the door you frequently use when leaving home.

Books

An easy way to engage a preschooler is through books. There are sticker books, coloring books, reading books, workbooks, hidden picture books, and even water books! Be sure to have a container filled with markers, crayons, and pencils.

Toys

Another effortless option would be to add a few small toys to the bag. These can be anything from a couple new cars, mini play dough containers, a few train pieces, to small plastic bugs or animals. Does your preschooler enjoy drawing? Toss in a mini magnetic drawing board.

Crafts

For the crafty preschooler, a simple craft could be included in the bag. Many craft stores have prepackaged crafts that only require applying stickers or simple gluing. Be sure to include a glue stick and any other needed tools.

Games

Forgot to grab your bag? Try playing I Spy or Simon Says with your preschooler. Another option would be to take turns naming things in the room that start with the letters of the alphabet. There are also rhymes and songs that can be sung. The Wheels on the Bus, I’m a Little Teapot, The Itsy Bitsy Spider, and This Little Piggy are some with hand motions too!

The options are endless on what can be packed into a bag! You may find that when you are prepared with an on-the-go bag, your stress decreases concerning waiting with your preschooler. His imagination and creativity may blossom and flourish, as you happily pass the time.
