Halloween Costume Ideas for Your Preschooler

Halloween Costume Ideas for Your Preschooler

Don’t do it! Don’t take the quick fix and just buy your preschooler one of those cheap plastic costumes at the Halloween store! Sure, they may be officially licensed products of whatever this year’s biggest action movie craze happens to be, but you’re (more often than not) getting a poorly made product that will only be used once. Instead, talk to your child about the possibility of creating a new costume by way of these suggestions…

“One man’s trash…”

It’s time to pop some tags! For a more vintage look, take your child to your local thrift store to browse the racks. Not only can they find a plethora of children’s clothes to try on for a unique costume, but they can browse the adult sections as well. They certainly won’t be able to fit into the corduroy blazer from the 70’s, however, if you give them time to play with it, who knows what kind of outrageous costume their imaginations can create with oversized clothes!

“SEW we meet again!”

For the more fabric-inclined among us, building a costume from a sewing pattern may be an excellent option. Sure, it seems old-fashioned and time-consuming, but creating your preschooler’s costume from scratch will help you spend some quality time really investing in your child’s life and happiness. Building a costume allows you to craft a personal piece for your child that will stand the test of time. Furthermore, your preschooler can use this option to customize the colors and look of the piece more precisely.

“I’m all about that base”

Don’t forget that Halloween makeup is a relatively inexpensive, yet versatile tool for creating the ultimate costume. Just because your child doesn’t have the flashiest costume on the block, doesn’t mean they can’t still be creative with their look. If you don’t want to use Mommy’s personal cosmetics, pick up a Halloween starter kit for just a few dollars at your local department store. That will come with palettes and tubes of the most popular colors for crafting a truly unique Halloween outfit!
