Keeping in Touch With Friends Over the Summer

Summer Friends

Chances are, your preschool children made great friends over the last school year.  It can be a difficult transition for your child to go from seeing their friends every day, to not seeing them at all.  Help your little one keep in touch with their friends with these summer activities:

Update Their Contact Information

Before school gets out, make sure you have the best contact information for your child’s friends’ families.  This way it will be easier to schedule activities with their friends.

Weekend Play Dates

Schedule fun activities for your child with their friends.  You don’t need to have a pool to stay cool in the summer heat.  Host a splash party with water guns, water balloons, sprinklers, and the water hose!  Or get together with friends and their families for an outdoor movie night in your backyard.  Check-in with the other families to see if they can rotate hosting fun get togethers throughout the summer so the kids can have time playing together.

Go to summer birthday parties

Not everyone is born during the school year, so help to celebrate the summer birthdays by committing your child to attending their friends’ birthday parties.  Since they won’t have their own special celebration at school, your child will enjoy getting to see their friends over the summer!

Easy meet ups

If you spend every Saturday morning at a local splash pad, make sure other friends know to meet you there. Your children will have fun playing together (not to mention burning off energy!) and you’ll get to catch up with the other parents while watching your children play.

Sign up for a team

Your child will have tons of fun playing on a sports team with a good friend. Not only will they get to see each other regularly, they will also share a hobby! Check with your local park board, YMCA, or school to see what kind of sports are available for your child. You should also consider activities like gymnastics and martial arts that are done in a group setting but are individual sports that emphasize good character.

Summer Camp

Enroll your little one at Kids ‘R’ Kids Summer Camp! Arts and crafts, sports, field trips, nature exploration, and community-focused projects await your children and their friends!

Video call

When all else fails, plan a video call with their friends.  Your child and his friend will be able to chat over the phone and talk about their summer fun!
