Christmas just happened. Craziness ensued. Your preschooler probably ingested more sugar than should be physically possible for a person that tiny. And now, you get to be the bearer of bad news… TIME FOR SCHOOL! Whoop, you’re really going to be the fan favorite for this week; or not. Whether or not your kids completely forget the presents they just received from you and how much you’re in the doghouse, the reality still remains – school is starting back up and everyone is still on a sugar high. Goodluck with that, right? Suffice to say, it’s not the most fun thing ever, but here are some tips to ease the transition back:
Routine is Key
The hardest part of returning back to school is very rarely the school itself, but rather everything else that goes along with it. Christmas break is the very opposite of routine – everyone has been traveling, staying up too late, not eating meals at a regular time, and all in all it makes for a mess. The easiest thing will be to try and reestablish that schedule a couple nights before school actually starts back. Have a strict bedtime, start waking them up at the same time every day. Start acting like school is starting back, and it will make it a lot easier on you when it actually does.
Hype it Up
Your preschooler isn’t old enough to feel as though they’re “too cool for school”, so don’t let them be! Remind them of all the good things – their friends that they haven’t seen all break, the coloring books, and even nap time. It only becomes a big deal if you make it a big deal. If you are bemoaning having to go back to work, then they are probably going to follow your example and throw a fit about having to go back to school. But if you emphasize the good things and throw a positive light on it, then you have some solid ground to stand on.
