Paying it Forward This Thanksgiving

paying it forward

A great way to teach our children to be thankful during the Thanksgiving season is to show them how to serve others by paying it forward. Teach your preschooler that paying it forward means sharing the blessings you have with those around you. Here are 15 great ways to pay it forward this Thanksgiving season!

  1. Invite friends to your Thanksgiving dinner who may not have anywhere else to spend the holiday.
  2. Have your child decorate a name place card for everyone who will be at Thanksgiving dinner and allow your guests to take them home as a keepsake.
  3. Make some mini pies and deliver them to your neighbors.
  4. Leave a thank you note in the mailbox for your mailman.
  5. Rake the leaves for an elderly neighbor who may not be able to.
  6. Give your child’s teacher a small gift as a token of thankfulness for all they do.
  7. Buy a $5 gift card while you are at the grocery store shopping for Thanksgiving food and on your way to the car, hand it to someone who is walking into the store.
  8. Offer to buy the person’s coffee or hot chocolate in line behind you while you and your child are in a coffee shop warming up.
  9. Work at a local food bank to assemble Thanksgiving meals to those who may not be able to afford one otherwise.
  10. Send Thanksgiving cards to friends who live far away.
  11. Pass out turkey stickers to kids waiting in the checkout line at the store.
  12. Complete chores to earn money to donate to a charity.
  13. Hold the door open for someone you don’t know.
  14. Donate food to a food pantry.
  15. Deliver treats to a local police or fire station.

All these acts of kindness demonstrate the meaning of the Thanksgiving season, to be thankful for all of our blessings and allow our thankfulness to overflow into treating others kindly.
