Back to School Schedule Planning for Families with Preschoolers

Back to School Schedule Planning for Families with Preschoolers at Kids 'R' Kids Suwanee, preschool, daycare, childcare

The summer is ending, and a new and busy fall schedule may be in store for you and your preschooler. Thankfully, with just a few basic plans, your preschooler can be better prepared for this fall time transition. Here are some ideas to help with your preschooler’s activity planning.

Preschooler Involvement

In whatever way you do your fall planning, try and get your preschooler as involved as possible. Though the below ways will get more specific, involving your child in whatever plan you have will help your preschooler adjust to any big and upcoming changes in your child’s daily life.

Desk Calendars

Purchase a simple desk or wall calendar at least a week before any new activities start. Show your preschooler how many days are left before your child must start a different dinner routine, for example. You could also use the calendar to show your preschooler which day(s) of the week that your child will be in tumbling or swimming. Allow your child to put on a sticker (or color in) when a new activity will start.

If you have not done “preparation shopping” yet, your child can put a sticker on the date you plan to go shopping for the new goggles for swim class or tutu for ballet, for example.

Valuable Conversations

Leading up to the start of the new activity, have unforced-sounding conversations about the upcoming schedule changes. For example, when your preschooler is eating dinner, you could say something like, “Guess what—next week at this time, you will be getting close to grabbing your new bag and hopping into the car for a play group!” These types of conversations may help you see if your preschooler has any specific concerns.

Soon enough, your preschooler will have the hang of a new schedule. With a few and simple preparations, your child will be on the front end of the schedule changes and transitions!
