Indoor Activities for Preschoolers

Indoor Activities for Preschoolers at Kids 'R' Kids Suwanee, preschool, daycare, childcare

You and your preschooler do not have to break out the hand-held devices or turn to the television when days shorten and temperatures drop. Instead, bring magic to the long inside days by reaching for a few common household objects and adding a pinch of creativity and imagination. Whether you create a garden with coffee filters and watercolors, float a laundry basket boat down the hallway, or open a storefront with a packing box, you and your little one can enjoy fun indoor activities whatever the weather is outside!

Let Your Imagination Go

Find a laundry basket and turn it into a boat or car. Mark out the river or roadway with wadded bath towels before turning over the driving or steering to your little one. Use a large cardboard box to open a storefront—sell flowers, toy cars, whatever you have on hand—and enlist customers from among resident stuffed animals. Want to go even simpler? Make a blanket fort around the kitchen table, turn cardboard tubing into swords, and have fun defending your fort together!

Plant a Garden

Use watercolor paints and white coffee filters to create rainbow-hued flowers. After you and your preschooler have painted the filters, let them dry before cutting out flower shapes. A washable glue stick will help to attach the flowers to a window or glass door. Acrylic paint or construction paper can be used to fill in stems and leaves. Admire your garden together over cups of steaming hot cocoa!

Make Some Music

Add some tempo to your day with a homemade musical rhythm set made out of household objects. A step stool, a large tub, a few pipes, and some bowls can become the rhythm set, and drumsticks can be fashioned out of cardboard tubes. If everything is plastic, you do not have to worry about the volume. You and your preschooler can enjoy making music—and memories—together!
