Halloween Activities for Preschoolers

Halloween Activities for Preschoolers at Kids 'R' Kids Suwanee, preschool, daycare, childcare

You do not need to spend a lot of money or do a lot of planning to put together Halloween activities for preschoolers that will thrill and delight them! Combine equal parts playfulness and creativity for memorable and fun Halloween activities for both you and your preschooler.

Traditional Halloween activities

Halloween has its roots in early European harvest festivals, and many traditional Halloween activities reflect agriculture’s central role in these communities. Bobbing for apples, for example, can be traced back to the 17th and 18th centuries. Donning costumes, trick-or-treating door to door, and sharing scary stories have also long been staple Halloween activities.

Fun activities for preschoolers at Halloween

While bobbing for apples might be a bit challenging for most preschoolers, and sharing scary stories a little too frightening, you have many other options for fun Halloween activities with your preschooler.

Spooky Scavenger Hunt

Secretly stash away (but not too well!) treats and prizes around your backyard, grab a few pumpkin bags or buckets, and blow a whistle to initiate a spooky scavenger hunt. Playful touches, like fake spiders and sticky spider webs, are perfect touches for pint-sized participants!

Pumpkin Patch Relay

Set up a simple pumpkin patch relay with a pumpkin ring toss station, a pumpkin decorating area, and a pumpkin bowling alley. Have everyone make pumpkin hats out of construction paper, and then wear them during the relay. Celebrate afterward with orange punch and pumpkin spice cookies!

Creature Costume Dance

Fill a basket with dress up clothes and props, and turn on lively music. Instruct preschoolers to dress up in whatever they can find and dance until the music goes off. Repeat until everyone is laughing and exhausted. For refreshment, enjoy sliced apples and pumpkin bread!

Amid all your festivities, if you do choose to celebrate with neighbors and friends, please be careful to allow for social distancing and follow the health protocols of your local government. A nice bottle of hand sanitizer is always a good idea with kids around too!
