Preschoolers may not be ready for haunted houses and scary mazes, but that does not mean you and your little one need to stay home around the Halloween holiday! In addition to family-friendly favorites, like costume parties and trick-or-treating, you and your little one can enjoy local Halloween activities that are perfect for preschoolers.
Fun activities with preschoolers during Halloween
Eating treats, playing games, and dressing up in costumes have long been associated with Halloween. Since the turn of the 20th century, haunted attractions, such as houses, mazes, and hayrides, have also become popular holiday attractions across the United States. Some neighborhoods and communities celebrate with bonfires, parades, and fireworks. Preschoolers may find some of these popular activities frightening or overwhelming. But with a little research, you will find fun and tot-friendly Halloween activities where you live!
Pumpkin Patch Visit
Paying a visit to a local pumpkin patch has become an increasingly popular tradition for families at Halloween. Pumpkin patches often offer not only a field of pumpkins for sweet photos with your preschooler, but also hayrides, harvest games, and sometimes even a petting zoo. These activities are usually geared toward young children and often involve a minimal charge or may even be free. Take a small picnic lunch along, and make a day of the adventure!
Trunk-or-Treat Outing
A variation on door-to-door trick-or-treating, trunk-or-treat is usually a Halloween event hosted by a local church or school. Cars with open trunks filled with candy and other treats are often stationed around a parking lot often with rows of carnival style games nearby. For parents of little ones, a trunk-or-treat outing can simplify concerns about being out late or not knowing a neighborhood very well. And your preschooler will still come home with a candy haul!
