Pumpkin Recipes With Your Preschooler

Pumpkin Recipes With Your Preschooler at Kids 'R' Kids Oakbrook, preschool, daycare, childcare

During the fall months, pumpkin spice seems to be everywhere, from coffee and donuts to pies and cookies. Explore this favorite fall flavor with your preschooler by following simple recipes in the kitchen. You do not need to make a complex dish or spend a lot of time to make something tasty that you can enjoy together. You might even find that you have plenty left over to share with friends!

Winter squash and the pumpkin

While the terms pumpkin and squash may be used interchangeably, in the United States, round, orange pumpkins have long been ubiquitous with the fall season, as well as with the Halloween holiday. If ripe, almost every part of this nutritious, fiber-rich winter squash can be used for cooking, from the flesh and shell, to the seeds, flowers, and leaves.

Pumpkin pancakes

All you need to turn regular everyday pancakes into delicious pumpkin pancakes is a 1/2 cup of pumpkin puree. Add the puree to your pancake batter and blend well, then add a dash or two of pumpkin spice seasoning. Enjoy with maple syrup (check for special seasonal syrups at your local grocery store) or a spoonful of whipped cream!

Pumpkin stackers

Grab granola and chocolate chips for this easy-peasy, kid-pleasing combination. Blend equal parts pumpkin puree with vanilla yogurt, and mix the granola with the chocolate chips. In a clear dish, alternate layers of the granola mixture and the yogurt blend. Admire your handiwork and enjoy it together!

Pumpkin cookies

Swap out the peanut butter for pumpkin puree in your favorite no-bake cookie recipe for a quick and easy holiday treat. Add a dash or two of pumpkin spice to the mix, and a few handfuls of walnuts or pecans if you enjoy your cookies with nuts. Chill according to the directions, and then enjoy with a glass of cold milk!
