Getting Crafty for Thanksgiving-Preschool Style

Getting Crafty for Thanksgiving-Preschool Style at Kids 'R' Kids Medlock Bridge, preschool, daycare, childcare

With the arrival of Thanksgiving comes one of the most festive times of the year and some great opportunities to channel both your and your child’s creativity. Crafting with a preschooler may sound challenging, but these three simple activities will allow some relaxation and gratitude to fall into your lap just as the leaves are falling on the sidewalk!

The best thing you can do to channel this creativity- get crafty with some Thanksgiving décor! Turkeys and pumpkins are both super popular symbols you can help to base your crafting off of, and both can be found anywhere and everywhere throughout the month of November. Found some leftover Halloween pumpkins on sale? Even better.

All three of these ideas will give your preschooler the chance to express their festive selves, and will still allow you to adapt activities to your parenting style and schedule.

Here are a few ideas to gauge your activities upon:

  1. The good ol’ hand turkey. All you need is your child, some paint and a paper plate. Cover your little one’s hands in paint and make a handprint as the base of your turkey. Use any other paint colors to add feathers, eyes, and a beak.
  2.  The great turkey cupcake baking competition. Stick some easy cupcake mix in the oven and make some mini turkeys! There are loads of ideas all over the Internet that are amazingly adaptable to your personal circumstances. You can go super Martha Stewart, or just eat all the candies before you actually put them on the cupcakes.
  3. Mini pumpkin painting. Mini pumpkins are cute, but mini pumpkins that were painted by your preschooler are even better! Keep it festive or allow your child to paint anything they want. Both will make a great center-piece.
