Preschoolers learn best when they can move, create, and play—and winter holiday activities from around the world are a perfect fit. Whether you’re at home or in the classroom, turn December into a playful celebration of culture and kindness.

• Hanukkah: Make a paper menorah and “light” a candle each night with a sticker. Talk about how each night represents a different part of the Hanukkah story. Preschoolers can practice counting and color recognition as they add each sticker. You might also sing a simple Hanukkah song to make the moment extra special.
• Lunar New Year: Decorate red envelopes, fill them with stickers or small notes, and give them to friends or neighbors. Explain that red symbolizes good luck and happiness in many Asian cultures. Preschoolers can help write or draw cheerful messages to include inside. Handing them out becomes a sweet way to practice generosity and sharing.
• Christmas Around the World: Explore how different countries celebrate, from piñatas in Mexico to straw goats in Sweden! Let preschoolers choose a country and make a small craft inspired by that tradition. You could also play music or learn a simple holiday greeting from that country. It’s a great way to show that holiday cheer comes in many different forms!

Try songs from around the world and dance together! Preschoolers love rhythm, and movement helps them remember what they’re learning. Use scarves, bells, or even pots and pans for instruments.
